The Unbound Dragon was enslaved for thousands of years beneath the Earth's outer crust by an evil sorcerer who wished to possess all things Draconian. However, the time has come when a ray of hope shines through a hole in his cavernous prison. The natural sunlight empowers this noble, proud, majestic beast with the strength sufficient to break the chains that bind him and once again escape to freedom.

The original concept to this art work was inspired by the original art commissioner as a reflection of how this collector perceives himself in his fight against the chains and cavern that binds him, otherwise known as PKD, (Polycystic Kidney Disease). The following is a statement that speaks from the source of the inspiration to this painting.

"Everyday we are faced with challenges. It is on how we respond to these challenges that defines us. When I was a senior in high school life presented probably the biggest challenge that I have ever faced. I was diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease. Admittedly, the thought of living with the disease was depressing at first. I have Autosomal recessive PKD, which means I have a genetic mutation that caused the cysts. There was no rhyme or reason for me having the disease, it just happened. I felt bound by my condition. But with the support of my family and friends, I was able to look at life with a new light. I have regained a positive outlook on life. I now feel that I am."
